Raster demonstrates that a geometrically constrained world can generate a unique breathing and living entity that constantly evolves.

THE DESIGN

It was imperative that the design theory evoke the Grid’s sense of order and motion. The designs needed to test the limits of the Grid by moving and excelling beyond its 2 dimensional application.

Therefore, they utilize contemporary architecture as a source of inspiration. The referenced architectural forms are highly calculated yet step beyond their rigid space by creating a sense of flow and motion. 

THE PAMPHLET

The concept is consolidated into a pamphlet that utilizes Josef Müller-Brockman’s Grid layout theories.

THE PROCESS

The process began by creating a narrative. Adjectives that reflected the grid were organized to inspire the sculpture, designs, and music.

The sculptural pieces needed to feel organized, purposeful, and create a sense that they were both protruding and receding from the wall even without the projector.

While the physical pieces created a sense of structure and motion, the projected designs needed to call in question this physical space. The designs begin with simple forms and culminate with a sense of complexity.
